Kumawood is a privately owned movie and awards industry that is based in Kumasi, Ghana. It was founded by Samuel Kwabena Darko, a Ghanaian businessman and enterprenuer. Kumawood has nurtured a lot of movie stars and Ellen Kyei White is not an exception. Ellen Kyei White' s success in the movie industry can be attributed to nothing other than sheer determination and having an astute mind. She lost her dad to the icy hands of death when she was just 5 years old and in effect, was raised by her mum (daddy' s third wife).
Ellen White attended the Adventist Primary School and then proceeded to have her secondary education at the Adventist Day Senior High School in Suame. However, it was when she was sent on an errand to Adum, Kumasi (after she had completed Senior High School) that Ellen ' mysteriously' had her first stint in a movie albeit under ' bizarre' circumstances.
Ellen narrated that a director known as Jackson K. Bentum spotted her and told her that he sees something in her which he' ll like to exploit. Little did she know that ' the something' he saw in her was acting, which led to her first movie role thus being the girlfriend of the legendary Santo in a movie dubbed, ' Okukuseku' .
After starring in that movie, Ellen travelled to Germany (where she spent 5 years) and then changed the scene to England (where she spent 4 years) to seek greener pastures. But after she got beaten by the snow after the bus she usually boards to work failed to turn up after 2 hours when she was working in a grocery shop in London, she decided to call it quits and return to her homeland.
Upon her return to Ghana, the same director, Jackson Bentum ushered her properly into the movie industry and since then, there has been no turning back for the star actress as she has even lost count of the number of movies she has starred in. She has also produced some movies under the production label, White Movie Production. In 2017, she was appointed as an ambassador for the Black British Entertainment Awards.
She has been an Adventist since childhood but rumours have it that she left the church because of the doctrine of the church which prevents ladies from wearing earrings and other fashionables.
